Campaign Launches to Educate Families on Simple Steps to Prevent Osteoporosis
National Dairy Council®, along with four health professional organizations, has launched an education campaign to promote healthy bones throughout life. The campaign communicates to families that eating a healthy diet including the recommended three servings a day of low-fat or fat-free milk, cheese and yogurt, particularly during childhood and adolescence, helps reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

Camellia Patey Named SNA 2008 Individual Industry Member of the Year!
Camellia Patey, RD, SNS, Vice President of Schools for National Dairy Council® (NDC) was named the sixth recipient of the School Nutrition Association (SNA) Individual Industry Member of the Year Award. Involved in child nutrition programs for over 15 years, Patey developed a strong relationship with the School Nutrition Foundation, making NDC one of the Foundation's major contributors for continuing education, professional and personal development programs for SNA members. School Nutrition Association National Nutrition Standards
The School Nutrition Association has released their National Nutrition Standards recommendations. They call for schools to offer and promote foods & beverages consistent with the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) and the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI). In addition they propose that federal standards will pre-empt state standards for all foods and beverages served during the school day throughout the campus.
The 3rd Annual Leadership in School Nutrition Award Winners are Announced
Union City School District, Union City, N.J., and Farmland Dairies LLC, Wallington N.J., are the First Place winners of the 3rd Annual Leadership in School Nutrition (LISN) Awards. The award acknowledges and promotes positive partnerships between dairy processors and schools through innovations in milk programming using kid-appealing plastic packaging, nationally known as the New Look of School Milk. Both of the winners received $5,000 to be used in future school nutrition efforts. Get more details and meet the other winners.
